Joining affiliate programs set up by other internet marketers is the fastest and easiest way to start your online business.
You don't have to spend time searching for a suitable product to produce. You just sell others' products.
There are many affiliate programs for you to choose from. You have to study the product closely whether it is in great demands and whether the commissions it brings in is worth your while to promote it.
The internet is jammed choke with all kinds of affiliate programs, while some will enable you to earn a reasonable income but most are just pure waste of your time.

Avoid these mistakes

Here are what you should do to avoid some of the mistakes which I made while promoting affiliate programs.

  1. Use your own website

    You must use your own website to promote the selected product then only insert your affiliate link and lead your proepects to the promotion page provided free by the merchant (owner of the product).
    The benefit in doing this is two fold, firstly you can take this opportunity to collect information from the visitors and you build your list gradually. Most people will not buy on the frist visit, if you have his/her email, you can follow up with more persuation and chances of them closing the deal are much higher then.
    Secondly having your own website will differentiate you from other affiliates who are promoting the same product from the same program. On the other hand if you want to save costs and are lazy, so you use the free promotion page provided by the affiliate program merchant, chances are that your prospects may have seen it many times before. They will say to themselves,"ini lagi, tiada muka lain kah?" then click the "close" button on your page and go away!
    However, if they reach this free page from your own webpage, that means you have done an excellent job convincing them, they might be ready to purchase now.

  2. Promote only 1 product on each website

    Even if you use your own web site, you still have to be careful. Do not make this second common mistake, that is promoting multiple products from diffrent affiliate programs on the same page.
    Those days web hosting spaces are expensive so we tend to cramp all the affiliate advertisement on a single page just to save money. But it is different now, hosting spaces are very cheap, we should change this habit now.
    Another reason for people placing many products on a single web page is because sometimes the side-bars are empty and do not look pretty. So we paste on both sides of the page with any banner we can lay our hands on, withour realising that we are jepordising our own chances of success.
    People like others to make decisions for them, if you present too many choices for them to choose from they may just take the easy way out, that is to leave your web page quickly without having to make any decision on which one to buy.
    My advice: promote only one product on a page.

  3. Be focused

    Limit the number of programs you are joining, so that you will stay focused. I know human beings are greedy, but if you have too many products on your hand, you will not be able to do a good job promoting them. Remember affiliate marketing costs very little to start, therefore attracts the most number of people to participate in it. So the competition is fierce, you have to work hard and stay focused.

  4. Do your part

    That is, you have to promote your selected products by building websites for them, join the correct niche community, forums to introduce them to members. Send out e-mails with your own personalised sales letters. A word of caution though, DO NOT Spam.
    It is bad ethique to advertise your items blalantly in forums, you may get banned this way. However, you can embed your website URL in your signature when you post in the forums. While members read your posts, they will sometimes click on it and land in your promotion page. Bingo!
    Similarly, do not send out mass e-mails to people who do not know you personally. You have to get his permission before sending a sales letter to him. Else you may get your account with the affiliate program be deleted if a single complaint is lodged against you for spamming. No joke.

  5. Hide your affiliate links

    Just like in the real life world there are always dishonest people stealing from others, if you leave your affiliate links unprotected, people will be able to subsitute your links with theirs and rob you of your commissions. There are software to camouflage your affiliate links to make them look like ordinary links without displaying your affiliate ID.The investment will be well worth it after working so hard to promote your product, it is unfair for people to steal your earnings away!
